Selected problems and challenges of ophthalmic care system in Poland

In the perspective of 10–20 years, ophthalmic care system in Poland will face numerous challenges, and existing problems increase. Due to aging population, incidence refractive errors chronic, age-related diseases such as presbyopia, AMD, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma cataracts change lifestyle, myopia is expected increase among children adolescents. The number ophthalmologists nurses decrease average age these professional groups optometrists low, legal aspects practicing profession remain unregulated. Low social awareness contributes late detection eye diseases, which worsens prognosis increases costs treatment.
